Therapeutic Art
brings back memories
Therapeutic art is relaxing. And soothing. And brings peace and enjoyment to the viewer. It’s popular in aged care. And hospitals. But in some medical sectors it can do more. Lots more. And it’s an area I’m currently exploring.
A couple of years ago Hesse Rural Health in Winchelsea purchased some of my images. For their activities room. The facility is home to a number of dementia and alzheimer’s patients, and is a model that many rural health organisations come to view. And emulate. From as far away as America! The lovely thing is, some of the patients responded really well to my images. They unlocked hidden memories for some. And they remembered Pinocchio. And Gerry. Which gave me a such a good feeling. Knowing that my work could do that for them.
When I visited the facility, the CEO at that time asked if I could shoot some images relevant to the age groups of the patients. As well as pastimes they may have partaken in. And this I’ve done, over the past few years. The image of the motor enthusiast was shot with this project in mind. As was the Superman series. And pretty much most of my images since then. So now I’m keen to explore this further. For if my images can be of help to these patients, in some way, then it’s a path I’d love to pursue. Gerry is pretty keen on the idea also. And we’ve got some great ideas for future images. So watch this space.
Images can be purchased in print form. And larger images can be outsourced by us. And framed if required. Printing, framing and transportation can all be arranged by us. At a negotiated fee.
